Nicaragua is one of the seven countries of Central America, located in the tropical area of Northern Hemisphere, the climate of its southern area being hot-humid. The country has some 130,000 km with a population of about 4.5 million. Diriamba is a small town of about 40 km south of Nicaragua's capital, Managua. Its great advantage is the climate. Located on a hill in the midst of coffee farms, it is much cooler than stuffy hot Managua and, therefore, an attractive place to live in spite of its rather rural settings.
Back on October 10th, 1894, Diriamba was pronounced a city by the Government. Now, it's celebrating its 108th anniversary but many locals say there isn't much to celebrate. During the last century, Diriamba was a very prosperous city but since 1979, it has not produced much. Once known as the "Crib of Gueguense" (native dance), locals now call it "The Lost City" because the city is not the same, it's not even organized.
