The above table shows the life cycle of coffee from seed to cup. We handle the coffee beans from it's initial state until it reaches you!
Seed-to-Cup is a popularly used phrase...but what does it mean? Seed-to-cup is simply the coffee beans' journey from the point of its growth in the seed to the time that it is served to you in a cup! At JavaVino, through Beanealogy, we offer our customers the true seed-to-cup experience. My family, the Kühl Family grows the coffee, we've been in the coffee farming buiness for generations. With my sisters and I being in the business, we're now the sixth generation in our family to participate in the coffee business. My folks farm and process the coffee in Nicaragua in the highlands of Matagalpa through our coffee farm, Selva Negra Estate Coffee. Then they export a container of coffee (about 40,000 lbs) to us through New Orleans into Atlanta. We then store the coffee in Atlanta at our Decatur warehouse and roast fresh batches of coffee on demand.
We package in five pound bags and deliver fresh coffee to our wholesale customers on an as needed basis. Most of our accounts order coffee once a week. We'll soon have an online ordering system where you can request your orders online.
To the right is Heddy Kühl, JavaVino (and Beanealogy) co-owner (co-owner with her husband Steve Franklin), pictured with her mother, Mausi Kühl. Mausi is the Selva Negra Coffee Estate co-owner (co-owner with her husband Eddy) representing the seed part of the equation and Heddy is the cup side through JavaVino (and Beanealogy). Together this mother-daughter team are able to skip all the middle men who normally take part in the enormous coffee industry. They are the farmer, they handle the dry and wet mill, they are the exporter, importer, broker, roaster and retailer...keeping the integrity of their coffee beans all in the family.
