Closing Retail Café FAQ

After nearly 22 years serving our community through our retail café and wholesale coffee-roasting business, we have decided to close our Poncey-Highland café to focus entirely on our rapidly growing wholesale operations. We are deeply grateful for the community that has supported us for more than two decades. This café has been a neighborhood gathering place and a beloved part of Atlanta’s coffee culture, and that’s entirely because of you—our customers, our neighbors, and our incredible team. You’ve shaped our story, and we carry that with us as we take this next step.

As many of you know, the coffee we roast comes directly from my parents’ coffee farm, Selva Negra in Nicaragua—a connection that has always made our work deeply personal. With your support, that connection has grown into a wholesale business we’re incredibly proud of.

While closing the café is bittersweet, we are excited for what’s ahead. Focusing on wholesale allows us to share our family’s coffee with even more people and to honor the legacy that started long before we opened our doors. As we enter our next chapter, we’re excited to grow our wholesale program by connecting with more coffee farmers and bringing their coffees to new retail and foodservice partners. Thank you, sincerely, for being part of our journey. We look forward to serving Atlanta—and far beyond—for many more years to come.

Full Press Release

1. Why are you closing the café?
To focus on our wholesale coffee business, we have decided to sell our retail building, retiring the retail café portion of JavaVino. As both sides (wholesale and retail) of JavaVino have grown, it has become increasingly difficult to give each the time and attention it deserves. By selling the retail property, we can refocus on what we do best—importing coffee from our family farm in Nicaragua, roasting, and distributing both green & roasted.

2. When is the café closing?
The last day of our café in Poncey-Highland will be Sunday, December 14, 2025.

3. Does this mean JavaVino is going out of business?
No. JavaVino continues with a focus on wholesale. The retail location is only one part of JavaVino’s overall business. We will continue to import coffee from our family farm, Selva Negra, in Nicaragua. We will continue to sell roasted coffee to coffee shops, restaurants, grocery stores, roasters, hotels, and offices. We will continue to sell packaged coffee online.

4. What will happen to the building once the café closes?
The building will be under new ownership. Customers can also look forward to improvements at the Poncey-Highland retail location. The new owners plan to open an innovative café concept, including renovations, and an anticipated opening in summer of 2026. JavaVino will remain closely connected to the space by supplying coffee to the new owners, ensuring customers can still enjoy their favorite JavaVino beans at that location.

5. What do I do if I purchased a gift card or have a gift card with credit?
You can use your gift card credit online to purchase packaged coffee.

6. What if I have loyalty stars (credit) on my JavaVino account? Can I use those?
Yes. We will run a report and transfer star credit to gift cards so that you can redeem online. You can also use up your credit at the shop through December 14, 2025.

7. Where can I get my JavaVino beans?
  • Online to purchase any of our coffees with free delivery to specific zip codes within Atlanta.
  • Grant Park Market & Candler Park Market carry a large selection of JavaVino coffees, packaged and in bulk.
  • Corner Cup in Decatur & Tucker serves JavaVino coffees, and they make exceptional espresso drinks.
  • Once the new owner opens at this location, they are planning on using JavaVino as their coffee supplier.
8. Say what? I can get free delivery on my JavaVino coffee beans?
Yes, we deliver online orders (30002, 30030, 30306, 30307, 30310, 30311, 30314, 30317) to local zip codes (no delivery fees).

9. Will JavaVino have a brick-and-mortar location?
Yes. We bought the old Stone Mountain post office to serve as our roastery. This is where we roast and package our coffee for wholesale and online deliveries.

10. Can we come out to the roastery in Stone Mountain and buy coffee there?
Not now. Currently, we are only doing production and wholesale distribution at our warehouse.

11. What’s next for JavaVino?
Going all-in on wholesale allows us to deepen our commitment to the craft, honor our heritage, and share the coffee our family grows with even more people. Currently, we sell coffee to over 500 customers, primarily in the Southeast. The move will enable JavaVino to focus on adding more blends and coffee varietals to our offerings and to increase our distribution of commercial and direct-to-consumer coffee sales throughout the US, and potentially worldwide. Additional plans for us includes expanded farmer-direct coffee connections, coffee cupping and espresso educational classes, and overall connections between coffee farmers and customers through coffee origin trips to Selva Negra.

12. Who do I contact with questions?
